HealthTeacher Announces Partnership with Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children and Six Central Florida School Districts
NASHVILLE, TN — HealthTeacher announced today a partnership with Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children to provide on-line health education curriculum to more than 670 schools in Central Florida.
Covering the largest concentration of schools in Florida, this partnership impacts more than 450,000 students and provides resources to more than 29,000 teachers.
"Our partnership with Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children and Central Florida's six public school districts will provide a comprehensive and consistent health education curriculum including on-line resources and supporting classroom materials," said Scott McQuiqq, chief executive officer of HealthTeacher. "Working with Central Florida teachers and the region's health leader we are creating a partnership that will ultimately make a huge difference in the lives children."
"We are honored to support Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children in furthering its mission to care for the children of Central Florida."
Like many students across the country, Central Florida area youth face a number of health challenges ranging from childhood obesity to alcohol and drug use. If addressed early in life, these challenges can be preventable.
"We chose to partner with HealthTeacher because of the educational opportunity it brings the communities' teachers, students, parents and school districts," says John Bozard, president, Arnold Palmer Hospital.
"We know many high-risk behaviors often are established during childhood and adolescence, which extend into adulthood. These behaviors are preventable with proper education and we believe HealthTeacher will have a lasting impact and positive influence on the children and adolescents in Central Florida."
Other HealthTeacher users around the country have already reported healthy lifestyle improvements in the students that receive this innovative program.
In fact, a 2007 survey reported that more than 80 percent of teachers have noticed changes in their student's knowledge, choices and concerns for their health. Teachers are voicing their excitement on the encouragement this program is inspiring in students to not only help themselves, but also others.
Through the partnership with Arnold Palmer Hospital, HealthTeacher curriculum will be available to all Orange, Osceola, Seminole, Brevard, Lake and Volusia County Public Schools this year. The curriculum was customized to align with Sunshine (Florida) State Standards for health education that requires instruction in five key areas:
- Health;
- Nutrition;
- Mental health;
- Family life/sexuality; and
- Tobacco use.
